Unpacking & setup

Unpacking & setup

Once your mattress or bed arrives, carefully remove all outer packaging and place it in a clean, well-ventilated room. Allowing it to rest for a few hours helps it settle naturally and adjust to room temperature.

Some mattresses, especially those containing foam comfort layers, may have a mild new-product smell when first opened. This is normal and temporary, and it should fade within a few days. Keeping the room ventilated can help it disappear more quickly.

Getting used to your new mattress

Getting used to your new mattress

A brand-new mattress can feel a little different at first compared with the one you have been sleeping on. This is completely normal, and your body may need a short adjustment period while it gets used to the new level of comfort and support.

During the first few weeks, you may notice light settlement as the comfort layers begin to respond to regular use. This is part of the natural bedding-in process and helps the mattress adapt to your sleeping position.

Mattress care tips

Mattress care tips

  • Rotate your mattress every few weeks during the first few months, then every 3 to 6 months afterwards to encourage more even wear.
  • Air your mattress regularly by pulling back the bedding from time to time so moisture can escape and the surface can stay fresh.
  • Always place the mattress on a supportive base or bed frame that is suitable for its size and weight.
  • For light marks, clean gently with a damp cloth and avoid using harsh chemicals, detergents, or soaking the fabric.
  • If spills happen, blot them as soon as possible rather than rubbing, which can push moisture deeper into the material.
  • A mattress protector or topper can add an extra layer of comfort while helping protect against spills and everyday wear.
  • Avoid jumping on the mattress or placing excessive concentrated pressure on the edges, as this can reduce long-term performance.

Warranty & important reminders

  • Do not remove the fire safety label from the mattress.
  • Do not bend, tightly roll, or store the mattress on its side unless the product has been specifically supplied in that format.
  • Keep the mattress flat and properly supported for the best comfort and performance.
  • Please note: Returns are not accepted once the plastic packaging has been removed.
  • If you need help with setup, care, or product advice, the Sleep Design Beds team will be happy to assist.
